County Candidates
Elect
Emiljana Ulaj
Westchester County Legislator, District 9
Re-districting has changed our County legislative lines, but most of Ossining and Briarcliff are still in District 9. Click here for the revised district 9 map.
Emiljana Ulaj and her family fled Albania in 1997 in the midst of a civil war. After nearly a year spent as refugees, the family emigrated to the United States where they were granted asylum. The family settled in Northern Westchester, and Emiljana’s parents worked multiple jobs to ensure a stable family life. Emiljana’s father was lucky to find a union job at a local public school, represented by the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), that provided health insurance for the whole family and the financial security for the children to go to college and pursue fulfilling careers.
Seizing on this opportunity, Emiljana began a career focused on public service. Today, Emiljana works as a union organizer for the very same union, NYSUT, that gave her family so much. Having worked as a hands-on public advocate, staff member for the New York State Senate, and now as a union organizer, Emiljana is ready to pay forward the opportunities afforded to her by advocating for others on the County Board of Legislators. Born and raised in the Bronx and now bringing up his own family in Yorktown, Vedat has experienced the promise and hard realities of the American Dream. He knows what it’s like to grow up without food on the table, so he is focused on getting real results for us on our everyday priorities. Vedat has spent the last four years fighting for Westchester families – keeping taxes down, enacting climate solutions, and investing in our infrastructure and public resources.
As a County Legislator, Vedat has always delivered and worked with others to get results – putting people and the everyday issues first. As the Chair of Appropriations, Vedat has succeeded in expanding services while cutting taxes, and once re-elected, Vedat will continue making real progress on the kitchen table issues – holding down cost of living, increasing investments in education and recreational areas, and facilitating economic growth by improving working conditions and job opportunities for the hardworking families he represents.
